1943
The First Atomic Bomb was detonated, a leap forward for science. It was the beginning of the Atomic Age and one company was among its pioneers, its name was Omni-Omega, a large 'think-tank' organization that specialized in researching experimental and classified technology. The Manhattan Project was one of many that was taken to Omni-Omega for its experts to help with. There were also occurrences they rather forget such as the Roswell incident. The elementary stages of construction of a engine-less craft using nuclear reactor which should have not hit experimental stage crashed outside of secured area. The alien conspiracy from this point on provided great cover and the military also provided help in this department as well.
1950s
The corporation known as Omni-Omega began to merge with the U.S. Military in research into weapons that could be used to fight the Cold War These highly classified experiments involved taking theories and applying Such as applications of the Unified Field Theory in bending light around an object (aka Philadelphia Experiment). There was a few successes, such as the successful development of some engine-less aircrafts, and quite a few failures, such as the Philadelphia experiment.
1960s
Successes in testing of new theories led the U.S. Military to invest great amounts of money into research stations and testing ranges. This provided the space needed to keep the experiments going. Electromagnetic Weaponry, Propulsion, and even 'shielding' technology was on the drawing boards. The military however was mostly interested in the refinement of fusion warheads and ICBMs and that is what Omni-Omega focused on and also at the same time began plans on building a massive shelter if the worse came true. The scientific community after studying radiation for a time, theorized that mutations could occur from exposure to it.
1970s
Landing on the moon, a bold step for humankind and science. OO (Omega-Omni) was eventually given the green light to research anything that would help get an edge over the soviets. Inventions such as lasers that would cut through tanks, take out ICBMs, and other such activities was one of the fruits of their efforts. Research on Unified Field Theory equations and devices produced a great deal of technology that allowed the creation of those UFOs people often saw, the scientists often joked about little green men happening to be air-sick pilots. Area 51 was discovered by much of the country, but they seemed tickled by the idea that the government could have technology that seemed science fiction.
1980s
The gap between technology being developed in the blackened, dark, and underground complexes of the OO and the rest of the world was becoming disturbingly large. The administration, legislatures, and even most of the military were far out of the loop of much of the technology being developed. The most visible contributions the OO to world were in the form of stealth technology, the SR-71, and the plans for Hypersonic aircraft (Beyond Mach 3). The heads of the OO began to get worried about their military connections could their advanced technology be used to destroy the world. This realization would be one of the reasons why the corporation maintained a tight seal on their most advanced technology such as their nearly completed 'Star Wars' Project, the one that people said could never be completed would have raised quite a bit of suspicion.
1990s
The fall of communism caused the fall of the OO's resources, it was not total oblivion for the OO though. The reduction of military budget forced them to research more conventional research such as microprocessors, transistors, and the more practical technologies of Internet Era. Most of their budget was going towards the development of 'Zero-point', a no-fuel energy source, this would make interplanetary travel and unlimited power production close to a reality. This never happened due to something BIG.
2000s
Turn of the Millennium, End of an Age. The Y2K scare was enough for the OO to build a massive underground bunker which would act as a sort of Noah's Ark. It would be the savior of mankind from nuclear annihilation. This bunker would be able to hold one million people for ten years. It was this way so that it would be expanded to the surface so that farming was able to be possible… They hoped that they would not need to use the shelter.
The Y2K Bug however fulfilled this doomsday prophecy such as aging Russian Missiles launching by themselves… and early warning systems automatically launching counter-attacks. This created tensions unlike any seen before and all-out Nuclear War began…
During this crisis, The President of OO, after filling the bunker with his employees, announced that he would allow others to join his corporation inside. Many rich and powerful people arrived at the Bunker within a few days after the announcement. The Bunker was located in Phoenix, and many Hollywood types got their quickly also. Along with a great many regular citizens around the Bunker, some even sacrificed themselves for their children's lives. The Bunker became quite a collection of people.
The Bunker filled to capacity and the mechanically closing thick titanium alloy doors sealed shut disallowing any additional people…
Those who survived the initial onslaught were not the lucky ones. Within the decade, only about 5 percent of human race survived outside of the bunker. They either were in makeshift bunkers themselves or they were resistant to the radiation.. and others, the most unfortunate were mutated by the radiation… Construction began outside of the Bunker after about 5 years, when the radiation had dissipated to a safe level. The Project was known as "Phoenix", the rebirth of the planet. The climate of the planet however was what the OO was unprepared for. The Nuclear Desert predictions were correct and the entire Planet had experienced a global ice cap meltdown. It would be a long time before humans could survive on the surface of this planet unprotected.
2010 - 2040
The Bunker was expanded upwards into a Dome. A massive structure designed to house crops within its surface area and below it's inhabitants. It was designed to be completed in 10 years, after 5, it was forced to be used, as the food ran out below in the Bunker. The Dome was a self-contained environment including a Farm level that absorbed the radiation and heat above the residential sections of the Dome. The families were the first to be allowed above, to act as the farmers for the Dome. The new inheritors of Earth, Mutants, thrived amazingly in the harsh conditions. They were resistant to the radiation and their 'abilities' allowed them to physically work harder and longer. They became farmers and hunters, uneducated and untrained and un-technological.
The first meeting between mutants and the humans of the Dome scared those who inhabited the Dome as the disfigured beings looked barely human and some exhibited abilities beyond that of humans. The President of the OO now known as 'The Director' did in fact allow the mutants limited access to the Dome. Over the objections of most people, but the people of the Dome still respected his decision.
After so many years of Mutants bringing up families among the radiated landscape, the reemergence of their un-mutated cousins was unwelcome to some. And to some others they were saviors…
Their were basically three groups of mutants, the original mutated humans, those who felt that they had finally found a way of rapture from their tortured existence. The next generation mutants, who raised by their parents still had 'some' humanity left in them. Later, though a new generation of mutants would arise, the children of these mutants, ones who had never knew a human.
Basically, the Bunker lived with normal relations with those Mutants who found it. Some lived in the depths of the Bunker where they worked as miners, due to their resistance to Radiation and also unusual physical stamina and strength. Some also helped farm in the large farms in the top level of the Dome. This increasing mutant population of the Dome was beginning to get the humans restless, along with the repeated threats from outside of the Dome from Mutants unhappy with the attempts of humans to make the Earth back to its 'human' form. Outside of the Dome about five miles in all direction was newly growing grasslands with trees.. a green location on a sandy globe. This was only the beginnings of troubles and conflicts…
2040s
Around 2040, one particular very charismatic (some way nearly meta-charismatic) mutant began rallying to have the humans SHARE the dome with them.. which was more like asking the humans to sacrifice all their homes, food, and water to the mutants as 'repayment' for their suffering from the radiation. They complied with bringing food and water to the mutant cities nearby to the Dome… They were trying to be good neighbors.. but were met with insults and sometimes physical abuse. The Director seeing this as a threat to the city began forming a security force for the Dome and it's territories.. If the mutants wanted to abuse the humans.. it wasn't going to happen on his watch. The mutants in the dome, most wanting to live normal human lives, were also being targeted by those humans who felt the mutants were just freaks of nature, unwanted children of earth.. This made the Director have to form the security force as also a police force for the Dome to keep all citizens of the Dome safe.. This also made this security forced feared by both humans and mutants alike. The study pf mutants also discovered that their birth rates were below that necessary to increase population. Humans, in their small numbers will take a while before they gain enough population to survive in small groups.
2050 - Current
In 2050, the celebration will begin for the fifty years of rebirth. Maybe this year will be better for the Dome, or could it be a year that Humanity is wiped off the face of the planet.. forever.. YOU will decide the Extinction of Humanity.
